Ann L. Nancy (McCaffrey) Kearney of Franklin died on Monday, March 31. She died peacefully and was surrounded by members of of her family. She was 85 years old and the wife of the late Robert M. Kearney. Born in Cambridge, MA, she was the daughter of Thomas and Irene (Casey) McCaffrey. She was raised in Belmont and graduated from Belmont High School in 1946. She attended Framingham State Teachers College and graduated in 1950. She was a second grade teacher in the Newton and Franklin public School systems, but being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother gave her the most pleasure. She was a tireless advocate for people with special needs, particularly those with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Wrentham Developmental Center and later a member of the facilitys human rights committee. She was also an active member of family activities at the former Irving Glavin Center in Shrewsbury. She was an avid reader, loved crafts, particularly ceramics and scrapbooking. An active parishioner of St. Marys Parish, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Legion of Mary, taught religious education, and started a special needs religious education program in the parish. Cape Cod was a favorite destination and home away from home at any time of year, and she treasured time spent with her family in West Harwich, Chatham, and later Falmouth. A loyal and beloved friend, she gathered frequently with classmates from college. Affectionately known as The Button Club, many in the group had known each other since grammar school. She is survived by her six children: Amy L. Kearney of Boston, Michael J, Kearney of Wrentham, Mary Ellen Mullaney and her husband Raymond of Franklin, Fr. Timothy Kearney of Haverhill, Christopher Kearney of Franklin, and Juli Kearney of Franklin, grandson Jeremy Kearney of Boston and granddaughter Katie Mullaney of Franklin, and a great grand daughter Emily Rose Kearney of Boston. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Marie Sommer and Mary McCaffrey. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Fri. Apr. 4th, at 10:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Franklin at 11AM. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Thurs. 4-8PM.
