Catherine Kay Cummings Nicoll, formerly of Needham and Yarmouthport, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 19, 2013. She was 95 years young. Catherine was born January 23, 1918 and grew up at 85 Salem Street, Reading, Mass. She was the youngest and last surviving member of 7 children. Her parents were Dennis and Mary Cummings. Kay graduated from Reading High School in 1935. She attended Bryant & Stratton College and Kentucky St. Teachers College. She worked at R.H. Sterns for 6 years after H.S. Kay was part of the Greatest Generation and was excited to help out with the war effort. She moved to Conn. in 1941 and worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corp. for 2 yrs. In 1943 Kay proudly joined the Womens Army Air Corp. She was stationed at Air Transport Command Headquarters in Washington DC, attaining the rank of Sergeant. She met the love of her life, George Gig Nicoll and they were married in uniform at St. Patricks Cathedral, NYC, on February 4, 1944. Three days later Kay and George were separated for 2 1/2 years during the war. After the War, they moved from Boston to Needham Ma., and raised a family of 3 Children. David, Jane and Barbara. Kay and George retired to Yarmouthport on Cape Cod in 1983. In 2003 Kay began a new chapter in her life. After 59 years of marriage, George died and Kay, at the age of 88, moved to Thirwood Place in South Yarmouth. Kay thrived at Thirwood Place for 6 yrs. and at age 94 moved to Stafford Hill in Plymouth Ma. Kays greatest passion was her Faith. She was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church in S. Yarmouth and Father Joseph Blyskosz impacted her life greatly. Kays other lifes passions were playing bridge, classical music, tennis, exercising, her family, and golf. (She achieved 3 hole in ones ) Survivors include her son, David S. Nicoll and his wife Judy of Hanover Mass; her 2 daughters Jane Nicoll and Barbara Nicoll Scher and her husband Jerome of Sun Valley Idaho. Kay is also survived by her 3 grandchildren (and their spouses), Jeffrey, Gregory, and Jennifer Nicoll Tuzik, and her 8 great grand children. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday 8/26/13 at Saint Pius X Church, in S. Yarmouth Ma. at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the Service. There will be a private burial service for Family at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the
