James M. Propas, 91, of Barnstable, entered into rest on Dec. 5, 2013. James was the dear son of Gladys Cawthray and Timothy Propas. He leaves behind his loving wife Eleanor (Nina Miaile). Together they shared 71 years. In his earlier years, James joined the Army and proudly served in Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe as a medical technician during WWII. After separating from the army, James started his restaurateur career at the Mayflower Restaurant in Brockton and soon became the owner and operator of the Hilltop Restaurant in North Randolph. He always greeted his customers with a big hello and a kind smile. The Hilltop Restaurant was his pride and joy for many years until his retirement. In 1997 James and Eleanor moved to Barnstable Village. James is also survived by his devoted daughters Elaine Hewitt and Evelyn Bassett, son-in-law Wayne, his cherished grandchildren Nina Hewitt Dalton and her husband Andrew Dalton Peter Hewitt, Dana Bassett, and Tara Ring, and her husband Vincent Ring and his loving great-grandchildren, Noah, Brooke, Camden, Mikayla, Marcus, Oliva, Liam, and Eli. Interment will be private and burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
