Arnold O'Dell

RIPLEY, W.Va. — Arnold Vernon O'Dell, 88, of Ripley, passed away Sat., Feb. 15, 2014, at Mt. Nebo.

Born April 30, 1925, at Quinwood, he was a son of the late Walter C. and Vertie Orndorff O'Dell. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Chafin O'Dell; brother, Walter "Diddle" O'Dell, and sister, Gilda Crookshanks.

He was a former Magnolia High School teacher for 20 years and owner of O'Dell Appliance Sales & Repair in Ripley. Arnold was a 32nd degree Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Hugh C. Boyd AF&AM Lodge in Matewan. He was U.S. Marine Corp veteran serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Post O'Dell; three sons, John (Rosemarie) O'Dell, of Richmond, Va., Julian (Sharon) O'Dell of Waynesboro, Va., and Robert (Valerie) O'Dell of Mineral Wells; five daughters, Terry (Jim) Dooley of Front Royal, Va., Teresa (Joe) Gardner of York, Pa., Kathy Bucks (Mike Todd) of Mt. Nebo, Amy (Kevin) Michael of Westminster, Md., and Sarah (Brad) Wood of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister, Charlotte (Ben) Johnson of Quinwood; two sisters-in-law, Barbara O'Dell of Greenville, Tenn., and Amy Dawson of Lost Creek; 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wed., Feb. 19, at Summersville Baptist Church with Rev. David Moore officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
