ELK CREEK, W.Va. — Floyd "Stook" Curry Vinson, 83, of Elk Creek, departed this life to be with the Lord Tues., Jan. 14, 2014, at CAMC Hospital in Charleston following a short illness.
He was a retired coal miner of 44 years from Island Creek Coal Company and a U.S. Army veteran. Stook was a very loving father and grandfather; also known as Papaw or Uncle Stookie to a host of children that loved him dearly and also Stook to all his friends.
Preceding him in death was his parents, Everett Leck and Edna Curry Vinson; his brother, Everett Vinson; sister, Lucy Aliff, and grandson, Anthony Ryan Vinson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret Vinson; daughters, Belinda O'dell of Delbarton and Carol Evans of Arkansas; sons, William (Kim) Vinson of Delbarton and Herbie Vinson of Charleston, formerly of Delbarton; grandchildren, Tiffany (Mark) Goff, Joshua O'dell, Joseph (France Madison Perry), Megan Vinson (Albert Hunt), Barry (Kathy) Glenn and Nathan (Candy) Wolfenberger; grandchildren, Kiara Jewell, Blade Goff, Skyler Goff, Autumn, Andrew and Mariah Glenn, and Carter Wolfenberger; great-grandchildren, Haidyn Phenis, and sister, Flossy Irene Estep.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Fri., Jan. 17, at Chafin Funeral Home with Elder Eddie Layne and Bro. Patrick Potts officiating. Burial will follow in the Curry-Farley Cemetery at Elk Creek.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be William Vinson, Herbie Vinson, Joshua Odell, Joseph Vinson, Mark Goff and Ernest Morrison.
