RAGLAND, W.Va. — Zephnior James, 86, of Rawl, fomerly of Ragland, W.Va., passed away April 5, 2014, at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 11, 1927, at Inez, Ky., the son of the late Herbert and Betsy Fannin James. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Ferrell James, a son, Johnny James, and a sister, Flora Williamson.
Mr. James was a retired coal miner, having worked more than 33 years for Island Coal Co., Kencar Coal and A.T. Massey. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, Member Hugh C. Boyd Lodge, Member Scottish Rites, Valley of Charleston Lodge, Member of the Tug Valley Shriners Club and a Kentucky Colonel. He also served as a judge during the Mingo Co. Golden Gloves. He was also very proud that he was honored as Mr. King Coal during the King Coal Days Celebration.
Those left behind to cherish his memories include his wife, Bertha Hardin James, son, Keith and wife Sue James of Cottageville, W.Va.; daughter-in-law, Joyce James of Belleview, Ohio, brothers, Edgar James of Inez, Ky., and Lee James of Marion, Ohio; sister, Ann Bowen of Marion, Ohio; grandchildren, Matthew, Natalie, and Tyler James and great-grandchild, Lincoln Johnny James.
Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mike Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.
Visitation will be at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. Graveside rites will be observed by the Hugh C. Boyd Lodge of Red Jacket, W.Va.
