WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Gerald Gene Fairchild, 83, of Valley View, Williamson, passed away Sat., Jan. 11, 2014, at the Pikeville Medical Center.

Born Jan. 19, 1930, at Hardy, Ky., he was a son of the late John and Della Sparks Fairchild. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Freda Mae Fairchild; two brothers-in-law, Danny Williamson and Clarence Sparks, and one sister-in-law, Betty Fairchild.

Mr. Fairchild proudly served his country for over 20 years as a member of the U.S. Air Force from which he retired as a tech sergeant and flight engineer. During his military career, he served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

Survivors include a step-daughter whom he loved dearly, Diane Drennon of Benton, Ark.; one brother, James E. Fairchild of Clarksburg; two sisters, Eloise Sparks and Gloria "Glo Ann" Williamson, with whom he made his home, of Williamson; two step-grandchildren, Ross Drennon of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Misti Hunt of Benton, Ark.; a special niece, Angela Murphy of Clarksburg; great-nephew, Sean Murphy of Clarksburg; great-niece, Kristi Williams of Clarksburg; a great-great-nephew, Chase Murphy of Clarksburg, and his special pet Bassett Hound Baby.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Mon., Jan. 13, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Lee Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.

Military honors will be presented by the DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, Ky.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
