DELBARTON, W.Va. — Ira Curry Jr., 89, of Delbarton, went home to be with the Lord Feb. 8, 2014, while a patient at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in S. Williamson, Ky.
He was born May 5, 1924, at Puritan Mines, W.Va., the son of the late Ira Sr. and Lula Miller Curry. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, Billy Ray and Estelle Curry.
Mr. Curry was a retired coal miner having worked for more than 33 years in the coal mines. He was also a faithful member of the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church and a Veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army.
His is survived by his wife of 49 years, Violet "Tince" Kirk Curry; two sons, Henry Curry and companion Barbara McClure of Dry Ridge, Ky., and Robin and wife Gisela Curry of Burlington, Ky.; sister, Lillie Curry of Manassas, Va.; grandchildren, Bryan, Alex and Amber Curry and Michelle Moore and great-grandchildren, Evelyn Curry and Wyatt Moore.
Funeral services will be held at the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Danny Mitchell and Bro. Bill Duty officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenore Memorial Gardens at Lenore, W.Va.
Visitation will be at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel, Monday evening from 6-9 p.m., with services starting at 7 p.m. The men of the church will be serving as pallbearers.
