WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Lonnie Dale Francis, 67 of Williamson, passed away Wed., July 2, 2014 in Huntington.
Born July 30, 1946, at Pike County, Ky., he was a son of the late Twyman and Elzie Williamson Francis. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Niemann, and brothers, T. J. Harold Francis and Darrell Francis.
He was a General Yard Master for N&S Railroad and a U.S. Army veteran in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Assistant Pastor and as Pastor for 17 years until August 2012. He made countless trips to hospital and nursing homes on a weekly basis. He had a gentle spirit, always encouraged and uplifted others leaving a lasting impression. Lonnie was a good father, husband and grandfather. To sum up Lonnie Francis, he was a special person.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Francis; daughter, Rhonda Francis of Eleanor; son, Joseph D. (Michelle) Francis of Hurricane; sisters, Bonnie Sue (Dorse) Hinkle of North Carolina, and Rosa Mary (Jerry) Thorton of Indiana; brother, Lewis T. (Cherly) Francis of Arizona; grandchildren, Sami (Kris) Francis-Johnson of Culloden, Jeremy D. Francis of Hurricane and Jonathan D. Francis of Hurricane, and a host of loving family and friends.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sun., July 6, at Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church with Lee Dotson officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky., with Virgil Akers, Steve Bragg, Jeremy Francis, Jonathan Francis, Travis Roberts and Jeff Ball serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter No. 141 DAV will conduct Military Graveside Rites.
Visitation will begin 6 p.m. Saturday night at the Leckieville Freewill Baptist Church with special services at 7 p.m. with Donnie Williamson officiating.
