CANADA, Ky. — Sidney Ray Fleming, 83, of Canada, Ky., passed away Wed., Jan. 29, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 13, 1930, at Haysi, Va., he was a son of the late William Leonard Fleming and Hattie Custis Fleming Edwards. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Fleming; step-father, Garland Bruce Edwards, and daughter, Sindey Fleming.
He was retired from General Motors, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a Deacon of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa (Larry) Dotson of Phelps, Ky., and Sunda Fleming of Dayton, Ohio; stepsons, Larry (Gaynelle) Thornsbury of Canada, Ky., Randal (Angelia) Thornsbury of Huddy, Ky., and Donnie Thornsbury of Canada, Ky.; two sisters, Vicki Newberry of Peoria, Ariz., and Nada (Jack) Johnson of Englewood, Ohio; three brothers, Wayne (Lou) Fleming of Abington, Va., Bobby Fleming of Englewood, and Gary (Harriett) Edwards of Huber Heights, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Mon., Feb. 3, at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home with Primitive Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky., with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Belfry Chapter No. 141 DAV will conduct military gravesite services.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday night at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home with special services both nights at 7 p.m.
