REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio — Ronnie G. Varney, 76, devoted husband to Donna J. Varney, loving father of R. Michael (Suzanne) Varney, proud grandfather of Abigail and Matthew Varney, passed away peacefully Mon., May 12, 2014, following a brief illness.
Ronnie was also a beloved uncle, a dear son-in-law to Myrtle (Rhodes) Sammons and a friend to many.
Born March 29, 1938, in McAndrews, Ky., he was a son of the late Ben and Columbia Varney. He was also preceded in death his siblings, Albert "Bood" Varney, Johnny Hall and Garnett Hatfield.
Ronnie served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician. Upon his completion of service he was employed by North American Rockwell then continued his career at Ross Laboratories (now Abbott Laboratories) from where he retired. He attended Reynoldsburg Baptist Church; was an avid golfer and bowler participating in many leagues and tournaments. When traveling with Ronnie he would share his love of Bluegrass music. Ronnie's favorite pastime was spending time with his family, who will miss him dearly.
Arrangements are entrusted to Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 Main St., Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068. Visitation and a celebration of Ronnie's life will be from 10-11 a.m. Fri., May 16, with funeral services to follow from 11a.m.-noon. The service will be under the direction of Pastors Wayne Wiles and Greg Savage.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to one of Ronnie's favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Hospital.
