WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Hazel Marie Isaac Chafin, 97, passed away Thurs., July 10, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom C. Chafin, a former Mingo County Sheriff; her parents, Charles and Georgia Isaac, and three brothers, Tommy, Ray and Jack Isaac.
She has one surviving sister, Katherine Isaac LaPorte of Elizabethton, Tn.
She is survived by three sons, Andrew, Don (Toby) and Senator H. Truman (Letitia) Chafin, and two daughters, Georgia (Kelly) Griffith, and Jeanne (Howard) Persinger, and several nephew and nieces. Hazel had 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Hazel always enjoyed painting and completed many works of art, which hang in her children's homes and offices. Several of her paintings were selected for West Virginia's Juried Exhibition by the West Virginia Department of Culture and History.
She was a longtime member of the Matewan Baptist Church.
She will be buried beside her husband, Tom C. Chafin, at the Ellison Hatfield Cemetery in Newtown. Graveside services will be at the cemetery at 1 p.m. Sun., July 13.
