Johnny Simpkins Sr.

BEECH CREEK, W.Va. — Johnny Mack Simpkins Sr., 67, of Beech Creek, went peacefully to be with the Lord, with his loving family by his side, at his home on Mon., July 14, 2014.

Born Nov. 7, 1946, at O'Keefe (Beech Creek), he was a son of the late Mack and Lucille Edwards Simpkins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Elizabeth Ann Simpkins, and a brother Danny Reece Simpkins.

He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, a retired coal miner with 36 years of service, and a member of the Sarah Ann Church of God for 36 years.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 43 years, Karen McCoy Simpkins; two children, Angela Simpkins and Johnny Mack Jr. (Melissa) Simpkins; six grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter; five brothers, Roger (Della) Simpkins and Wesley (Rhonda) Simpkins, both of Huntington, Emmett (Sandy) Simpkins of Elizabethtown, Ky., Lonnie (Wanda) Simpkins of Canada, Ky., and Terry (Gail) Simpkins of Lebanon, Ohio; one sister, Lottie (Bill) Meador of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 nieces and nephews; one very special sister-in-law, Deloris McCoy Spencer, and a host of friends.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Fri., July 18, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gary Starr and Bro. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Simpkins Cemetery on Right Hand Fork at Beech Creek with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be presented by the DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, Ky.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home with services at 7 p.m.
