Obituary

Harold Ray Travis, 68, of Williston died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at his home following a short battle with cancer.
He was born March 30, 1945 in Blytheville, Ark. to the late Gerald Ray and Effie Marie Smith Travis.
He attended Southern Baptist Junior College and College of the Ozarks on basketball scholarships, earning degrees in education and business.
He was a former high school teacher and coach. He was an insurance agent, district manager, and sales training instructor in the insurance industry before becoming a full-time rope horse trainer. After retirement he worked part-time at the Williston Golf and Country Club and the Chiefland Golf and Country Club.
He and his wife of 27 years, Susan Venable Travis, moved to Williston in 2004 from Springfield, Tenn. In his spare time, he enjoyed team roping, teaching people to rope, golf and watching boats go by. Among his greatest joys were the friends he made through his travels, work, and in the roping arena, especially in Arkansas, Ohio, Tennessee and most recently, Florida.
In addition to his wife, survivors include children, Alex Travis of Gainesville, Misty Ann (David) Wine of Columbus, Ohio and Michele Collins of Williston; grandchildren, Brandon Collins of Ocala, Mia Collins of Williston, David Wine Jr. and Jessica Wine, both of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Mary Jo Hendrix of Rives, Tenn.; brothers, Dennis Travis and Gary Travis, both of Kentucky and the mother of his daughters, Sharon Diann Glasgow of Dayton, Ohio. He is also survived by his adoring in-laws, Lee Venable of Lake Park, Deborah, Terry and Chris Duncan of Fenton, Mich., Sondra Venable and Robert Wolf-Knapp of New Orleans, La., John R. Venable of Cottesloe, Australia and John and Hazel Venable of Conneaut, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Katzenberger.
