Nancy Jo Lewis of Dillard, Ga., formerly of Orlando, went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2014.
Nancy was born Nov. 2, 1940 in Williston. She graduated from Williston High School and then Florida State University, and was a staunch Seminole fan. She spent her career as a school teacher and librarian for Orange County Public Schools. Upon retirement, Nancy moved to Dillard and became a member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, where she also worked as the church secretary.
She was well known for her quick wit and sound mind. She was certainly responsible for helping to shape the minds and lives of many young people. Nancy should have been most proud of how many souls she led to the Lord.
For six years, Nancy fought to stay healthy after being diagnosed with breast cancer and transverse myelitis. She was ever faithful throughout her fight. In her spare time, even after getting sick, Nancy enjoyed telling stories at the senior center as she was a gifted storyteller. She also spent many an afternoon playing cards with her bridge ladies.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Dorothy Lewis, and her sister, Mona Morris.
She is survived by her brother, Gwain Lewis; five nieces and nephews, Leann Slaughter, Patrick Morris, Suzanne Faircloth, Malcom Lewis and Becky Currie; four great-nephews and niece, Shaun Slaughter, Keirstin Faircloth, Vance Faircloth and Christian Morris and five great-great nieces and nephews.
Services for Nancy will be held Wednesday, July 23 at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church at 11 a.m. in Dillard, Ga. and Saturday, Aug. 2 at Morriston Baptist Church at 11 a.m. in Morriston. Nancy's favorite charity was St. Jude Children's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Nancy's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the .
