Howard Robert "Bob" Cook was born in Albany, N.Y. April 8, 1930 and died Feb. 19, 2018.
He graduated from Ravena High School in New York. He served in the U.S. Army four years and his service time included being overseas in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He also took classes in Japanese and Judo while in Japan. Upon returning from Japan, he operated an automotive business in Orange, Mass. He was a longtime businessman in Massachusetts and Florida in the automotive business and wrecker service.
The family moved to Williston in 1959. He owned and operated Cook's Auto Mart from 1959-2018. He also operated the Citrus County Speedway in the late 60s. He was a winning "high-point" race car driver on several dirt and asphalt tracks in the New England states and New York. After moving South, he continued to drive and won on race tracks in Florida and Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Helen R. Cook; daughters, Laura (Cal) Byrd and Suzanna (Harold) Benka; son, Jeffrey (Paulette) Cook; grandsons, Andrew (Heather) Munk, William (Jessica) Munk, Charles (Nancy) Munk, Rebecca (Chuck) Beck and Joseph Munk, Ronald (Samantha) Byrd, Rusty Byrd and Stephen (Katie) Byrd; granddaughters, Amy (Jason) Langworthy, Jennifer (Bill) Jones and April Blanchard; great-grandchildren, Madison, Savannah and Brinley Langworthy; Hayden, Darren and Hadley Munk; Leslie Wigglesworth, La'Rissa and Autumn Munk; Jesse Blanchard; Leigha and Brycen Byrd, Eli and Kadence Kennethy; Roy and Grace Davis, Maxwell Byrd; MacKenzie Goode, Tierney and Sabri Jones; Joshua, Matthew and Christian Munk, Lyza Odenthal; Anthony, Bryant and James Chapman; sister, Linda (James) Polverelli and two sisters-in-law, Norma and Virginia Cook, Nancy Cook and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was prepceded in death by brothers, George and David Cook; parents, George and Eurreta Cook; grandsons, Daniel Cook and Michael Byrd.
He was devoted to his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, make donations to First Presbyterian Church of Williston or .
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at the chapel of Knauff Funeral Home, Williston with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Orange Hill Cemetery with the Rev. George Douglas officiating.
