Richard Neil Hudson Sr. passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017.
He was born April 7, 1949 in Lake City, to Jack and Frances Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Hudson.
Richard graduated from Gainesville High School in 1967 and attended both Santa Fe Community College and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Cape May, N.J.
Following college and the Coast Guard, Richard worked for Alcon Construction in Gainesville from 1972-2005. After 33 years in the construction industry, Richard and his sons founded a concrete company, HHH Concrete, where he was the co-owner until his death.
Richard was a member of the Touchdown Club at the University of Florida and was an avid Florida Gator football fan. He loved nothing more than watching Gator games with his sons and daughter while eating his infamous hamburgers. He was a very kind person who thought the world of his four children and had a gregarious, outgoing personality and had numerous friends.
Richard is survived by his sister, Jan Hudson and his brother, William (Carol) Hudson, as well as his children, Kimberly Hudson, Richard (Jessica) Hudson Jr. , Randall (Brooke) Hudson and Robert (Evan) Hudson; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bannon, Miranda Milton and Brayden Pedersen. He is also survived by his companion, Ramona "Winkie" Huguley as well as many nieces and nephews including Michael "Sonny" Wallace, Andy Hudson (Katie), Jennifer Hudson (Dee), Jay Hudson (Amy), Elizabeth Meadows (Matt), Mandy Moreno, Jack Hudson and Miki Hudson.
Richard's family would like to thank the caring staff of UF Health Shands Hospital Oncology staff and Haven Hospice of Gainesville.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 N Main St, Gainesville, FL 32601, Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Elks Lodge, 2424 NW 23rd Blvd, Gainesville, FL 32605.
