Walter John "Butch" Maloney Jr., 74, of Morriston passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.
Born in Gallitzin, Pa., he came to Morriston in 1983 from Williston.
He belonged to the Holy Family Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #58 in Dunnellon.
He enjoyed playing bingo, puzzles, all sports and enjoyed spending time with his family most of all.
He retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant with more than 30 years of service, including two tours of Vietnam, where he received numerous medals including the Good Conduct Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
He is survived by wife, Sarah Maloney; sons, Walter John Maloney III, Gregory Scott (Vickie) Maloney and Keith Allen Maloney; brohers, Dwaine (Pat) Maloney and Billy (Jenny) Maloney; sisters, Dolores Davis and Emma Smith; five grandchildren, Gage, Noah, Dallin, Anthony and Sarah Diane; a great-grandchild, Christian and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Janet Lutz, Edna Knipple, Nancy Williams, Charles "Deo" Maloney, Rosemarie Hoover and Teddy Maloney.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Knauff Funeral Home, Williston.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Rob Trujillo officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Orange Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, Williston.
