Father Allan Gerald Bohner died peacefully at his daughter's house in Willits on Thursday, September 12, 2013. He leaves his seven children: Jeff Bohner, Christina Korson, Galen Bohner, Mary Horger, Stephen Bohner, Raphael Bohner, and Christopher Bohner; as well as 21 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Father Bohner was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 7, 1931. He was a corporal and rifle instructor in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean War
. He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1959 and practiced as a Chiropractor for thirty-five years. In 1958 he married Veronica Balunis.
In the late 1960's he began his studies in Theology at St. John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota and on August 10, 1971 was ordained as a Permanent Deacon for service in the Diocese of Charleston South Carolina. In the 1980's he ministered as a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Monterey, California; and in 1991 after moving to Willits, California, was appointed by the late Bishop Steinbock to serve as a Permanent Deacon at St. Anthony's. Father Bohner also opened a Chiropractic practice in Willits. During this time, he was also appointed as the Editor of the Diocesan newspaper, The Redwood Crozier and held that position until the newspaper was discontinued in 2001.
After the death of his wife, Veronica, Father Bohner pursued further studies in Theology and on July 19, 1998 he was ordained to the Priesthood by the late Bishop G. Patrick Ziemann. He ministered at St. Anthony's parish, Willits but also served as a supply priest in various parishes in the Mendocino/Lake Counties. On November 1, 2000, Bishop Daniel Walsh appointed him pastor of Assumption parish, Ferndale where he served until 2005 at which time he retired due to health reasons.
A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at St. Anthony's Church in Willits.
