It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Grace Roberta Munson, 79, on February 5, 2014 in Willits.
Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, has begun another journey as she joins her loved ones who have gone before her.
She was born in Willits to William and Laura (Page) White on August 18, 1934, and attended Willits schools. Her life changed forever on April 29, 1950 when her father, Mendocino County Sheriff Deputy, William A. White, was killed in the line of duty leaving his young wife Laura and his four young children.
On July 8, 1956, she married her husband of fifty-seven years, Leonard R. Munson. Since Willits is a small town, they had known each other since they were small, and Leonard fondly remembers that he used to throw rocks at the then four year old Grace as she followed him to school. After they married, she became his business partner of fifty-seven years at Munson Automotive.
She worked at Northbrook Nursing Home for over twenty-two years, first as an aide, then becoming their Recreational Director. She cared so much for the people she worked with there. The family wants to express their deepest thanks for the wonderful loving care Grace received during the last months of her life.
Her many hobbies included knitting and crocheting. But she was most passionate about her garden and her many antiques. She was quick to share her knowledge about gardening and antiques with all who would listen.
Her many accomplishments included; being named the Soroptimist "Woman of the Year" in 1984; Bowler of the Year back in the 60s; but most of all, she prided herself in the ability to best any man at the pool table.
Through all of those years, though, her greatest love and blessings came from her family.
She was predeceased by her parents and an infant sister, Barbara. Surviving her are; husband Leonard R. Munson; sons, Rick and Steve Munson; daughters Debbie Munson and Karen Patereau, all of Willits; brothers Larry White (Willits), and Richard White (Arizona); and sister Laura K. Nielson (Sunnyvale, California).
She leaves nine grandchildren; Derek and Darbi Hendry, Beau Suttles, Roger L. Patereau III, Kristine and Matthew Patereau, and Joe, Bryan and Monica Munson, as well as 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation Friday, February 14, 2014 at 2 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 265 Margie Dr., Willits, California. She will be interred at Willits Cemetery.
