He is survived by his four children: Charles, Jerry, Ellen DeRego Brown, and Evelyn DeRego Lawson; and by a brother Albert Canepa. Carl also leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Helen, his wife of more than 65 years.
Carl was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the Pacific theater aboard the USS Medusa.
Carl and Helen came to Willits in 1950. He worked with his family at Willits Rexall Pharmacy until 1968, then moved to Fort Bragg and opened the Fort Bragg Pharmacy.
Years later, he retired to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was active in the Elks Lodge.
Carl was very active in the Willits community, serving on the Willits school board, as president of the Willits Horseman's Association and the Willits Lions Club. He enjoyed volunteering for the Frontiers Days celebration and the rodeo Sweetheart contest. For several years he chaired the very popular Easter Egg hunt for the Lions Club.
Carl will be dearly missed by his family and friends. As World War II veterans, Carl and Helen will be placed to rest at the National Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
