Dwayne Dalton Obituary

Dwayne Alton Dalton passed away peacefully in his home in Branscomb on Monday, October 11, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Exeter on September 29, 1944. The California native had been a resident of Laytonville for 25 years, and had worked for Harwood Products for 16 years.
Dwayne enjoyed pheasant hunting, bass fishing and spending time at the ocean. He was a SF Giants and 49er fan, and loved the outdoors and his animals. He spent time with his family and enjoyed the peaceful life Mendocino County provided.
Dwayne graduated from high school in 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1963 to 1967. He made a career of being an electrician, a skill he learned in the Navy.
After an honorable discharge, he married his high school sweetheart Randi (Champion) Dalton in 1969. The couple and had four children: Naomi Lani (Holly) 5/16/71; Ivan Jesse 1/22/73 12/9/75; Lurane Dawn 6/2/75; and Johann Joel 3/31/77. He was married for 12 years. Dwayne graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in conservation of natural resources. He was proud to be the first in his family to graduate from collage.
From 1979 to 1985 he lived in Stockton. In 1986 he moved to Laytonville to be closer to his children and enjoy country life.
He was a wonderful father and our best friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his father, Richard Dalton, and son Ivan Jesse Dalton.
Surviving family members include his mother Francis Dalton of Waashington state; sister Kaye Dalziel and Bill Dalziel of Washington; children Holly (Naomi Dalton) Burton, Lurane Dalton and Harvest Cassidy of Laytonville, and Johann Dalton and Debbie Dalton of Willits.
Grandchildren Jeremy Burton, Matthew Burton, Ivan Dalton, Shania Dalton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, also survive.
There will be a remembrance of his life with a pot luck barbecue to share stories and good times of our father and best friend on Sunday, October 24, at 1 p.m. at 1560 Branscomb Road (Holly's house).
