Mary and her late husband, Hubert, were married in February 1943 and made Willits their home in 1946. They moved into their newly built home on Franklin Street in September 1947, and remained there for over 66 years, until both went to be with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born February 7, 1926, Mary was well known in the Willits community, and touched many lives with her warmth, compassion and giving spirit.
In addition to raising four children, Mary kept busy working at various jobs throughout her life. For a short period of time, while Hubert was in the Army, stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Mary worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a forklift driver. After moving to Willits, Mary worked as a waitress at Brooktrails Lodge and at the soda fountain at the Greyhound bus station. Quite often she could be seen in her khaki uniform pumping gas and cleaning windshields at Posey's Shell Service Station at 425 South Main Street.
For 11 years, Mary ran a very successful day care center out of her home, and although the children are now adults with families of their own, they still come to visit Aunt Mary whenever they are in Willits.
After retiring from Microphor, Mary ended her working career at the William F. Harrah Senior Center, running their Extra Hands program. It was this last job in her working career she enjoyed the most. She got great pleasure making sure that at-home seniors got the kind of services they needed.
Mary is survived by three of her four children: John Posey of Napa, Michael Posey of Willits, and Jeanette (Posey) Valador of Willits. She also leaves a sister, Bea Barella of Reno, Nevada; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren (with another great-grandchild due in May); two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Posey, daughter Linda (Posey) King, and a brother, Wesley Brown.
Services will be held Saturday, March 16, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 24 Mill Creek Drive, where both Hubert and Mary were charter members.
Pastor Karl Bilese will officiate.
