Mary Ivonne Nunley Obituary
Mary Ivonne Nunley passed away peacefully in her daughter's home after a long illness on Thursday, February 7, 2013. She was 68.
Mary, the youngest of 12 children, was born in Healdsburg on December 24, 1945, to Ollie Mae Parker Nunley and Joseph Ferris Nunley. The family was extremely close-knit, often picking fruit together in the fields around Healdsburg.
As a youngster, Mary was a good student and a natural artist.
She loved her children and grandchildren, taking every opportunity to celebrate their achievements and accomplishments.
As an adult, she was a free-spirited artist, expressing her talent in a variety of media, from oils to driftwood sculpture.
Mary also had a wonderful healing spirit, enveloping all who came into her presence and making them feel better just by being with her. She never had a penny in her pocket, but always had something to give. Even as a child she found a way to use her own Christmas money to buy everyone in the family a gift.
Mary loved the outdoors, camping and fishing extensively throughout her lifetime (as a child she would fish at the creek with a safety pin). One of her favorite natural places was Manchester Beach, where she would camp during the summer with the family.
Mary is survived by brothers and sisters Lonnie Nunley of Windsor, Jackie Perry and Patricia Willis of Missoula, Montana and Pete Nunley of Fairfield.
She also is survived by her children: Clovis Dale Kee Jr. of Ukiah; Kelly Stokes of Laytonville; Marie Thompson of Upper Lake; Mark Bill of Fort Bragg and Wendy Carsey of Anderson Valley; and by grandchildren Larry Thompson, Heather Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Ryan Stokes, Jennifer Stokes, Braden Carsey, and Daniel Baeuerlen; and by great-grandson Christopher Stokes.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and by siblings Lloyd Nunley, Edith Fullbright, Irene Mathews, Martha Bell Mc Manus, Inez Pierce, Jody Jenkins and Frances Bell.
The family plans a celebration of her life this summer at Lake Mendocino.
