DeWayne Marvin Wilson of Laytonville Rancheria, a Cahto Tribal Member
Our beloved DeWayne, born May 21, 1947, began his journey home on Wed., April 16, 2014.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David Wilson and Freda Rockey; and, siblings
Sharon and Daryl Wilson. He is survived by his partner of 30 years, Margaret Ruiz; his son DeWayne Marvin Wilson, Jr. aka Charlie Whipple; step-children: Elmer Jr., Brian and Georgia; grandchildren: Leah, Jesse, Ruben, McKenzie, Shawn & Regina Wilson; brother, Darnell, and sisters: Charlotte and Karen Wilson; niece, Christy; and nephews: Cory and Brad; Uncle Mervin Wilson, and aunts: Elaine Rockey and Eloise Simpson; and many cousins.
DeWayne was known for his great laugh and fine-tuned ear for music, and melodies that got started by playing in a band called "Tequila Sunrise." He was a great ball player and sportsman. He enjoyed being around family and friends. With DeWayne, there was never a dull moment.
He survived the Viet Nam war - Da Nang - from 1967-1969. After the war, he went to work for Harwoods Lumber in Branscomb, then to the Red Fox Casino until he retired.
His recreations included hanging out with fun-loving company, playing music, and enjoying life. Loved by all who knew you, DeWayne, you will be forever missed.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Cahto Tribal Community Center, with private interment at Cahto Tribal Cemetery.
Arrangements under the care and direction of Anker-Lucier Mortuary.
