James L. "Jim" Boyd, 80, of Winchester, passed away Friday evening, January 3, 2014, surrounded by his family at Reid Hospital in Richmond.
He was born November 25, 1933, in Winchester, to the late John and Lucille (Campbell) Boyd. Jim's favorite hobbies included, fishing, bowling, watching the Pacers and horseshoes. Jim was a prankster and was always making people laugh.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy
from 1951 to 1954. He spent the majority of his life working at Anchor Glass, where he retired after 42 years. Jim spent his life dancing with his beautiful "sweetheart."
He leaves to cherish the memory of his six children, James (wife Deb) Boyd, Jr., John (late wife Fred) Boyd, Gary (wife Jody) Boyd, Jerry Dean Boyd, Diana (husband Jim) Stalcup, and Krista (husband Wilbur) Miller; a brother, Robert Boyd, Sr.; three sisters, Tiny Retz, Patty Hinheiser and Beverly Myers; 25 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren; and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosella (Pat) Boyd; his parents; his daughter-in-law, Floretta "Fred" Boyd; brothers, George Boyd, Charlie Boyd, Junior Boyd; and sisters, Ruth Regal, Mary Cash, and Betty Jean Boyd.
A service to celebrate Jim's Life is 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 7 at Walker Funeral Home, Winchester, with Eddie Phenis officiating. Cremation will follow.
