Tom A. Landess, 89, of Winchester, passed away with his family at his side Monday, August 5, 2013 at Pine Knoll Rehabilitation Center, Winchester.
He was born April 26, 1924 in Winchester to the late Herchel and Cathryne (Cox) Landess. He attended Winchester High School and was a WW II Army
veteran, serving in the European Theatre. Tom was a brick mason and contractor for more than 50 years. He was a member of Main Street Christian Church, Winchester Masonic Lodge # 56 F.&A.M., the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Shriners, the Order of the Eastern Star #60 in Winchester, and a former member of the Union City Elks. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and Cincinnati Reds games on television and driving his golf cart. Tom loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Zelma (Barron) Landess of Winchester; a son, Todd A. Landess (fiancé Joey Acker) of Winchester; four sisters-in-law, Maribelle Landess of Winchester, Arta (John) Prescott of Winchester, Ruth Poynter of Plainfield and Christine Pinney of Greenville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Raymond Landess, Robert (Colleen) Landess, William (Alice Mae) Landess and Walter (Barbara) Landess.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, Winchester, with Steve McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester, with military rites conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Masonic services are 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.walkerswinchester.com.
