Vernon Dwight Fraze, 92, passed away June 29, 2013 in his apartment at Addison House in New Castle.
He was born September 11, 1920 at Union City, Ind. He graduated from Indiana University
in 1942 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. He advanced to the rank of Captain with the 2nd Armored Division in Europe. Among his decorations were the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart
and Silver Star. He lived in Fort Wayne for 38 years. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. He was also a member of Sol D. Bayless Masonic Lodge and the York Rite Bodies. He retired from the Weatherhead Division of Dana Corporation in 1983 as Distribution Center Controller.
In 1984 he moved to Hot Springs Village, Ark., where he was active in the Desoto Dancers Square Dance Club and the Friday Mixed Seniors bowling league. In 2009, he moved to New Castle to be closer to his family.
Survivors include two daughters, daughter, Carol (Jim) Blickenstaff of Glenview, Ill., and Ruth Duebner of Barrett, Ill.; a son, Dwight (Martha) of New Castle; a brother-in-law, Edward (Peggy) Brown of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Stella (Wolf) Fraze; and his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Brown Fraze.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Fraze-Brooks Memorial Chapel, Union City, Ind. Burial is at Lisbon Cemetery.
