Rowena R. Bake, 103, of Winchester, passed away Wednesday evening, January 23, 2013 at Randolph Nursing Home, Winchester.
She was born March 9, 1909 in Liberty to the late Irving and Lora (Ross) LaFuze. Rowena received her bachelor's degree from DePauw University and her masters degree from Ball State University. She was a school teacher for 21 years with both Union and Randolph Southern school systems. She was a member of Winchester United Methodist Church, Randolph County Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Y's Owls of Winchester, Eastern Star and Farm Bureau.
She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Mary Sue Karstetter (husband, Bruce) of Las Vegas, Nev., James Bake (wife, Martha) of Winchester and Ronald Bake (wife, Carol) of LaCanada, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Cecil Bake in 1990; and three sisters, Eloise MacDougal, Portia Lynch and Luanna Nossett.
A service to celebrate Rowena's life is 11 a.m. Saturday at Thomas Memorial Chapel, Lynn. Burial will follow at Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester.
