I remember what date and where I met Bob and Tammy Probert. June 10 1994 at Erin Mills Town Center in Mississauga, Ontario. I was with my girlfriend and our friend was dating Tammys cousin at the time. He ran up to us and said Probert is in the Mall! I ran into Bob and Tammy by the food court. I told em hes awesome and to stop picking on Wendel.lol This night is vivid and I remembered it because that was the night my girlfriend and I were going to the premier of movie Speed. And Tammy and Bob were also going. Probert was such a nice dude. Glad a met him if only for a brief encounter. R.I.P. Bob

I never met Bob, but I was a huge fan who lived 10 minutes away. Sometimes I'd see him driving on Riverside. Probert was the best fighter in the NHL, ever. He was amazing. My brothers and exes made me watch hockey but when Bob was on the ice I loved it. The whole arena came alive. He made the game fun & exciting to watch. He's been gone now 7 years and he's still loved and remembered. I pray for Dani and their kids. I hope they are well. RIP #24, just goes to show GOD ALWAYS TAKES THE BEST! Gone too soon but will NEVER be forgotten.

July 13, 2010

My condolences to the Probert family from across the big pond.
Although I never had the pleasure to actually meet Bob Probert, he still used to be "part of my life".
As a kid I caught a short report about NHL hockey on TV and part of that report was the legendary Red Wings #24. This got me hooked forever after and there was some sort of bond between Bob and me, although we've never met.
There was something special in him and despite of his role on the ice, I always thought there was alot of kindness and thoughtfulness in his eyes.
The news of his passing away hit me really, really hard.

Thanks for the memories, Probie, you'll never be forgotten.

Clay Irwin

I will never forget when I met Bob Probert, He would walk into the room and everyone stopped and said, thats the guy.. next thing I knew everyone was talking about him.. and tickets started to sell! the year was 1987.. and the wings went from the dead wings to the wow wings.. Bob Probert and Joey Kocur (bruise borthers) with Steve Yzerman and that's all it took.. they don't get the credit they deserve. cause I maybe knew a handful of people who were interested in hockey and the next thing you know everyone was! Bob and I and some of the other wings became good friends and the memories I have with him flying down the river in his brand new boat freezing half death was probably one of my favorite memories along with some others but I will keep those to myself...You will be one of my best friends and thanks for all the memories (I still owe ya lol) You will be missed! Now it's time to start the chant PROBIE! PROBIE! and get that 24 Karrot number retired.. When I leave Iraq and buy my boat it will be called 24 Karrot in your honor with Bugs Bunny wearing your jersey eating a karrot (carrot) your friend still, Clay (Dawg) Irwin .. Bob gave me that nickname and still to this day my firends call me that!! Even our B-day is on the same day, peace from the middle east Robert!

Seven days have passed, and as I sit and read all of the sympathy notes, I remembered all of the good times growing up with Bob. We first became friends in Grade 1 and grew up getting into the typical trouble kids get into. Often, we would watch the Dukes of Hazard in his basement and go swimming at my parents‘, play pool at his neighbours’ and play pick up every Sunday morning at the now-gone Lakeshore double pad arena. He was in my dad’s car when I got my first speeding ticket, and I vividly remember us waking up his dad to see if he could “take care of the ticket” only for him to call my dad at two in the morning to let him know what had just happened. We did a lot together from school science projects, hanging in the mall, fishing, bicycling, playing street hockey to sneaking into a local bar with charcoal drawn moustaches to make us look of age.

I remember one day fooling around at our grade school when we were not suppose to be there and me winding up with 14 stitches in my forehead because Bob slammed the steel door on me. In early high school, we worked at a local McDonald’s Restaurant and I clearly remember us opening the store one morning, and when the manager pulled up, he saw about 25 helium-filled garbage bags floating from the back door. Not a pretty sight.

I have many stories, but when Bob made it to the NHL, he never changed. He remained the same easygoing person most of the sympathy cards talk about. No matter what the press would say, he would never turn down a favour or an opportunity to make a kid’s day by signing something. This is the Bob we need to remember, cherish and love.

I think Bob matured a lot when he married Dani. My family and I were at the wedding and thought it had to be the most beautiful event we had ever been to. I have included a picture to show how beautiful a couple they were. Sadly, when I heard of his passing, I was in Chicago and had to fly home to attend both the wake and funeral. Something that I still cannot get over. I cried, hugging his mother, wishing to go back in time to simpler days.

My sympathy and condolences go to Dani, the kids, Norm, and his mom, Teresa. I love you all and will never forget the smile and the laugh from the man I call friend. God bless you, Bob, and as your daughter said, Heaven will never be the same.

Being in my high school years while Mr. Probert was in the heyday of his career, I can honestly say a good 20% of the jerseys my friends and I used to wear playing street hockey was his.

Whenever a mock fight would break out, or a real one, we would all yell Probert, Probert... he was an icon then, and an icon forever. One of 'my' top 25 favourite/most memorable players of all time.

I've been watching hockey since I was old enough to make sounds and I always remember looking forward to seeing Detroit play Toronto when I was growing up because I knew it generally meant a showdown with Probert and Clark. Probert had class, he had skill, he was tough and as i'm finding out he was a family man. Anyone who can overcome the issues that he did, the way he did deserves every ounce of respect anyone can offer. R.I.P. and you will clearly never be Forgotten.

To the entire Probert family I want to send my condolences for the passing of Bob. In 1985 I attended a Wings game early. I was walking around The Joe when Bob was skating. He said "hey here" and he flipped me a puck. Then I met him at a pick up hockey game and my brother knew him Centennial Secondary School. The last time I saw him was at Spitfire Playoff Game and I remember giving him hell for wearing a Blackhawk Jersey during the hounary faceoff during the 2009 playoffs. We laughed. My point being is that Bobby was approachable when in public and never cocky. He was a down-to-earn human being and one hell of a Red Wing. God Bless you Bobby and all of your family friends.

La perte d'un être cher est cruelle et inhumaine ! Mais heureusement Dieu nous promet de rétablir un monde meilleur : " Oui, il engloutira la mort pour toujours ; oui, Dieu essuiera les larmes de dessus tous les visages . I met Probie a couple of times and he was a really nice, down to earth guy. The one time I remember the most was when I went to get an autograph and he saw that I had the Red Wing emblem painted on my nails. He grabbed my hand and started showing everyone and saying how cool it was. My smile was huge and so was his in my picture of him. I feel so bad for his family and want to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I cry alongside you and everyone else who loved Bob. God Bless You All.
