O'NEIL, Robert Arthur
Passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his loving children, Bobbie Reber, George O'Neil, Garry O'Neil and Greg O'Neil (Heather). Loving grandfather of Briar, Adam, Garrett, Regan and Alex and proud great-grandfather of Ashton. He was predeceased by his wife Elsie (Hunter) O'Neil and his granddaughter Ashley Chapin Reber. Born in Windsor on February 20, 1924, he grew up the youngest and last surviving member of his family. His parents were George Alexander O'Neil and Grace Webb O'Neil of Oldcastle and Windsor. Predeceased by siblings Muriel Smith, Ruth Martin, Roxy O'Neil, Carl O'Neil, Ella Popeleski, Wilbert O'Neil and Gladys Clark. He is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews - Margaret O'Neil (Australia); Sheila Martin Riggs (Bill) of Toronto and daughters Amy, Laura, Robin & Jen; the late Barbara Smith Haddow (Bill) and children Janet, David, Rob, Bruce, Ann & Amy; Neil Smith; Paul Smith (Fran) and children Bill, Carlene & Paula; the late Christopher Smith (Pat) and children Mark, Brian & Kathy; David Smith (Sharie) and children, the late Robbie, Robin, Richard & Richelle; the late Alex O'Neil, Nancy Donnelly, Kenneth & Patrick O'Neil; Penny Clark Westman, Roxy Fitzsimmons, Wendy Carroll, and Vern Clark. Bob served overseas during WWII with the Fort Garry Horse (RCAC). Following his graduation from Ryerson in Toronto, he spent his life in Welland as a master watchmaker and as an outdoor enthusiast. Donations in memory of Mr. O'Neil may be made to the Bruce Trail Conservancy (a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) at P.O.Box 857, Hamilton, ON L8N 3N9, Canada. Cremation has taken place and a family memorial service will take place at a future date.
