AITKEN, Irene Margaret (nee Reid)
Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family and friends on February 14th, 2014 at the age of 82 years. Reunited with her true love the late Robert (Bob) Aitken (August 2012). She is survived by loving sister Edith (Mac) Elliot and predeceased by parents Samuel and Edith Reid, and brothers William (survived by Judy), and Laurence. Dear sister-in-law to Alex (Connie) Aitken and Catherine Dickerson. Aunt Irene will be always remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by many dear friends that truly were her extended family and very special to her, especially Debbie Dent (Terry Bell), Pat and Lawrence Lucier and Helen Panchuk. Irene retired as Manager of W. G. McKay Customs Brokers, Windsor, in 1992 and was the first woman president of The Windsor Transportation Club. Until her poor health, Irene was still actively attending customs retirement functions and transportation events and loved to hear the latest news around the ports of Windsor or Fort Erie, Ontario. Irene and Bob enjoyed travelling, was a big fan of The Scottish Highland Games and Oktoberfest. Irene was a Lifetime Member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Ontario Provincial Command Branch 143 and an active member of Westminster United Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Extendicare Tecumseh, especially the amazing staff of the Lakewood Unit for their amazing care. Irene was again blessed with amazing care givers who she considered her friends as well as the other residents and their families who passed by, stopped in or offered random acts of kindness. If you so desire, donations to the Memorial Fund of Westminster United Church or a Charity of Choice would be appreciated by the family.
