Quietly surrounded by family November 16, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Son of John Dietrich, Sr. and Maria Dietrich, older brother of Dr. Michael Dietrich and wife Patricia Dietrich of Windsor, Ontario, all who predeceased him. Loving husband of Mary (nee Grubak) for 61 years. John and Mary had three children, daughter Janice Dietrich of Novi, Michigan; son Dr. John W. Dietrich of Akron, Ohio; daughter Marilyn and husband Wade Bray of Brighton, Michigan. He was a loving and proud grandfather to Anthony and Jacob Mastropaolo of Novi; Jonathan Dietrich, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut and Tyler Dietrich of Akron, Ohio. John enjoyed his many longtime friends, nieces and nephews, as well as special companions Bella Bear and Baxter Bear Bray. Cars and engines were John's lifelong passion. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1948 from Detroit Institute of Technology and did graduate studies at University of Michigan. A registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), he was a lifelong member of the Professional Engineers of Canada and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He specialized in engine engineering, retiring in 1994 after a 32-year career at Ford Motor Co. John had a voracious zest for life, a keen mind, and enjoyed enthusiastic conversations with everyone. John was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dearborn, Michigan and through family history a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Windsor, Ontario. A service honoring John's life will be held Monday, November 19 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 21915 Beech Street, Dearborn, Michigan at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Dr. Colleen Kamke officiating. Viewing at the church will precede the service at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at Mt. Kelly Cemetery, Dearborn. In appreciation of his life, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Organ Fund, or to Trinity Lutheran Church in Windsor, Ontario. Arrangements by:
