JESSIE DRAPER Obituary

Published by Windsor Star on Feb. 13, 2013.
DRAPER, Jessie
Passed away peacefully on Jan 14, 2013 with loved ones by her side. Loving wife of the late Glen (1969). Cherished mother of Janet, Sharon and Susan. Beloved Grandmother of Jill, Brandy, Carly, Evan and Leah, and Great- Grandmother of Logan, Kaylyn, Cole, Sophie, Seth, Ben, Stevie and Max. Born in Lambton, England in 1925, Jessie sailed from Portsmouth in 1946 to come to Windsor to marry Glen, whom she met in London during the war. He knew he was a very lucky man to persuade his English Rose to come to Canada! Her early days were spent in Walkerville which reminded Jessie of her beloved homeland. Over the years she did much charitable work with the St. Michael's and All Angels Church, as well as giving her time to help with the disabled at a facility in St. Thomas, Ontario. She was always eager to help those in need with her generosity and kindness. For a time she worked in the music dept at Kmart, lending her knowledge of music to buyers who came in to buy records for their jukeboxes. Jessie was a big fan of the Beatles and Motown, so the buyers put a lot of faith in her choices! She gave us a love of music and reading at an early age. Jessie loved music, dancing, traveling and gardening. No one could trim a rose bush and get it to bloom like her! Over the years she won Gardening Awards from the City of Windsor for her beautiful English garden. Many happy trips were made back to her cherished homeland over the years to visit the family she left behind. Jessie enjoyed life to the fullest and touched many people with her lovely personality and smile. She was a wonderful, fun and caring Mother, as well as a very special and proud Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, so every year we will make a toast and remember what a beautiful person she was. She will be sadly missed on both sides of the ocean but her spirit will remain with us every day! Jessie wished to be cremated and her ashes will be returned to a special place in her beloved England.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Draper years ago while working at a place on Victoria & University called Guaranty Trust. She made such an impression on me that I always remembered her for her beauty outside and inside as well as her elegance, and that was 40 years ago. Condolences to the family of Mrs. Draper. May her garden now bloom in heaven.
