LAWRENCE, Kenneth William
Ken died peacefully February 18, 2016, at 95 years of age. Loving father of Karen (Bob Gabhart) and Susan (Terry McKinney); grandfather of Devin, Garland (David Yi) and Charlotte. Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife Wanda (2003) and son Mark (1981). Ken was a skinny Paterson Collegiate football player who joined the Essex Scottish regiment in September,1939 and fought with the Canadian forces until the end of the war in 1945. His brother Jack died in the Dieppe raid and the war had a profound effect on Ken's life. He married Wanda in 1948 and worked at Ford Motor Company until retirement in 1980. Ken has been a Detroit Lions season ticket holder for 66 years. He will long be remembered for his enduring love as a husband, father, and grandfather, his loyalty as a soldier and friend, his patience as a Lions fan, his deep interest in world events, and above all, his integrity. Special thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Huron Lodge; to the Oates family, especially Betty, who brightened his last years; to Barbara Brinkworth, Joanne Gibbs, Keith Lozon, Beth Mingay, and Brian Pasceri who were faithful, lifelong friends. A memorial Celebrating Ken's Life will be held in the summertime. Donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross.
Rest in peace, our beloved old soldier.
