IRBY WINSTON-SALEM Dorothy Ann Scales Irby April 12, 1941 - July 21, 2012 Dorothy Ann Scales Irby was born in Madison, North Carolina (Rockingham County) on April 12, 1941 to Dorothy Dodd Scales and Ivory Scales. She passed away July 21, 2012. Dorothy Ann was the oldest child and had a younger brother, Ivory Scales, Jr., who preceded her in death. She received her education from the Rockingham School System (Charles Drew) and continued her education in White Plains, New York. Dorothy Ann met Robert L. Irby, Jr. in White Plains, New York in 1957. They fell in love and married in November 1958. This union produced two sons Tyrone Thomas Irby and Darryl Robert Irby. Dorothy and Robert lived in White Plains, New York until 2003. She was a valued employee with White Plains Hospital for 30+ years as a Certified Obstetric Surgical Technician. She and her beloved husband retired to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 2003 where they enjoyed their golden years Ann was an enthusiastic supporter and volunteer in the Winston-Salem triad area for the 2008 Barack Obama presidential campaign. Dorothy Ann was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, family member and friend. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Robert L. Irby, Jr.; her sons, Tyrone Irby and Darryl Irby; grandsons, Jamal Archer, Darryl Irby, Jr., Gavin Irby, Amir Joseph, and Ezekiel Irby; granddaughter, Jasmine Irby; great-granddaughter, Jaycee Irby; aunt, Mamie Jones; uncle, Paul Simpson; and a host of cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 in the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, 822 Carl Russell Ave., W-S, NC 27101 with Pastor Cleveland A. Graham officiating and Pastor Joseph A. Graham eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
