Ben, I was so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. I didnt realize she was sick. I last spoke to her about a year ago. She was a special person and I know she will be missed by many. I know how hard it is to loose any loved one, especially a mother. I am sure you have many wonderful memories that will give you comfort. Monty and Joan Robinson

Reading these comments has shown me what a great motivator Sue Runkle was to so many people through the years. No wonder Ben and Steve accomplished so much in music! Her talent and vivacious spirit will continue to make the world a better place thanks to the gifts she has passed on to students, friends and family. My thoughts are with you, Ben, and all your and Sue's loved ones.

Ben, with genuine respect and affection I remember your mother Sue as a friend and neighbor. Actually, she wrote to me when Tom died in 2004 reminding me that it was an interview with me in 1962 by your father that you came to live in Glen Forest. He liked the area and told her about the location. Sue was a beautiful person in all ways and I know that music, that universal language, made her dear to so many as she shared her talent. I always liked knowing your family was just down Tanglewood Drive from me. Barbara Parramore

I was fortunate to have had Mrs. Runkle as my voice teacher during high school in the early 80's. I will always cherish my memories of her and the encouragement she gave me to use my voice. She was a wonderful teacher who I admired and for whom I am grateful to have known. My prayers are with her family and loved ones.

I am so sorry Ben.. I mean that from the bottom of my heart! I had a long conversation with your mom 3 weeks ago and promised her that I would come have a long talk with her again soon... The Lord beat me to it! You know her, your brother, your dad, and mine (and everyone else) are up there looking out for us! God Bless..........

I grew up in Raleigh, and attended Highland throughout my childhood and young adult years. Mrs. Runkle encouraged me as a young violinist, providing me with many opportunities to perform at Highland. To this day, my favorite benediction is the Irish Blessing which was sung so beautifully by the chancel choir at the close of many worship services in the 1970's, under Sue's capable direction. We were all blessed by her caring spirit, and beautiful music.

Our Heavenly Father knows that losing a loved one to death causes us great pain. Your tears are not unnoticed. Although your deep pain will not easily disappear, prayer to God will bring comfort to you as you grieve. The Bible assures us God "is healing the broken hearted ones, and is binding up their painful spot." Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Ben, I was so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Although I did not know her well, her love for music is so evident in you (and was in Steve). I got a kick out of seeing her watch you play at the bbq restaurant a couple of years ago. You have my deepest sympathy.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Runkle's passing. I met her one evening when she was accompanying her son, Ben, to one of his musical performances and found her to be an engaging conversationalist, quick with a laugh and a smile and very interested in others' ideas and lives. She was a lovely lady.LaNelle Davis

I was fortunate and honored to be one of Sue's "adult" voice students. We shared many happy moments at Highland and in our homes. I will miss her. May God bless and comfort her son, Ben and other family members.

So, so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. She was an incredible choral director and voice teacher. She was also a great friend to my mom, June Lewis for many years. May she rest in peace!

They were wonderful neighbors to grow up next to. Many days I would come up the driveway from the school bus and hear voice lessons going on. She was always loving and kind and I will always have wonderful memories of the Runkles.

I was privileged to know Ms. Runkle as a valued member of the Glen Forest Homeowners Club and Neighborhood. She was a lovely person who participated in and supported the Glen Forest activities. We shall miss her special contributions to our community. We offer her family our sincerest condolences.
