Thomas Dull Obituary

DULL HILLSVILLE, VA - Thomas Ray Dull, Sr., 84, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010. He was born June 2, 1925 in Forsyth County to Julius Ruffin and Clara Lena Thomas Dull. Mr. Dull served with the U.S. Army for 43 years serving during WWII. He was presented the Purple Heart and two Oak Leaf's. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 1115 in Hillsville, Chapter 23 of the DAV in Hillsville, and the Moose Lodge in Galax. He was the longtime owner-operator of Parkview Restaurant in Winston-Salem and also had retired from Pepsi-Cola and the National Health Laboratories, both in Winston-Salem. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Coram Dull and his second wife, Foy Lee Heath Dull, a daughter, Sandra Embler, a son, Keith Dull, a grandson, James Timothy Pinnix, two sisters, Edith Speaks, and May Oates, and two brothers, Edward and J. R. Dull. Surviving are two daughters, Diane (Ronnie) Williams, and Susan (Mike) Branch; three sons, Tommy (Kathy) Dull, Ricky (Annette) Dull, and Rudy (Teresa) Bray; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Doris (Ray) Hire and Hazel Long, one brother, George Dull. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 23, at Slate Funeral Home in King with the Rev. Bill Teague officiating. Burial will follow in King Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 22, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the VFW Memorial in Pfafftown, Clemmons or Advance, NC or VFW Post 1115 in Hillsville, VA.

I love you grandpa, you are a wonderful man. You raised me as well as helped make me who I am today. I am grateful for all the memories I can look back on, I miss you so much. I am blessed to have had you in my life. You are with mom and grandma now and I find some comfort in that. I love you... turkey. Arianna said "Grandpa Thomas spread your wings and fly".

I'll miss your laugh.smile and jokes. I'll miss calling you on Thursday and Sunday night to hear your voice on the phone to know that you're alright.I'm so glad that I had the two weeks you were at my house to be with you and to take care of you. My grandfather will be missed so much, but I take comfort in knowing that he is dancing around heaven with my granny right now as we speak. He was an amazing man that I will always love, cherish, and look up to!!!!! I love you pawpaw!!!!
