Stensberg, Kenneth W.
Kenneth W. Stensberg, 91, Marshfield, died on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 20, 2013 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Jon E. Guenther, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield, will officiate. Burial will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery, Wisconsin Rapids. The visitation will be held on Friday from 11:30 am until service time at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, is assisting the family.
Ken was born on September 17, 1922 in Wisconsin Rapids to Olaf and Roena (Kruger) Stensberg and was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy Serving during World War II. He was a "plank owner" a member of the first crew to serve aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid where he received the Purple Heart.
He married Virginia M. "Ginger" Olson on February 21, 1948 in Wisconsin Rapids. She died on May 30, 2009. Ken was employed by Consolidated Papers at the Consoweld Division as an electrician. He retired in 1984.
Ken was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield, and a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids. He was a charter member of the Central Wisconsin Beagle Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Green Bay Packers, and time spent at the cottage.
He is survived by a son, Douglas (Marcy) Stensberg of Marshfield and a daughter, Cheryl (Pat) Lauby of Wisconsin Rapids. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Todd (Marie) Stensberg of Stratford, Jason Lauby of Nekoosa, Sam (Laura) Stensberg of Chippewa Falls, Josh (Tara Culligan) Lauby of Chicago, and Jamie (Matt) Steiner of Marshfield, and 5 great grandchildren, Abigail and Josie Stensberg, William Stensberg, and Alexzander and Wyatt Steiner. He is further survived by a sister, Donna Stensberg of Wisconsin Rapids and a brother, Rev. Burt (Lucille) Stensberg of Appleton.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Rhonda, and 3 brothers, Robert, Richard and Russell Stensberg.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Aster Retirement Community for the loving care that he received while residing there for the past 3 years.
