Carl Marsh Obituary

Carl G. Marsh

Carl G. Marsh, 66, Appleton, devoted husband and FANTABULOUS father, went peacefully home to be with Jesus his Savior on January 12, 2013, after losing his battle with COPD and diabetes. Carl was born on October 31, 1946, to his proud parents, Otto and Alma (Timm) Marsh.

Carl joined the US Navy in 1964 and served his country proudly on the USS New Jersey as a Damage Control Man. He was honorably discharged in October 1969. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Winifred "Jackie" (Baldwin) Scruggs.

His career was one of caring for people and included working as a Firefighter for the Sparta Fire Department, and the 440th Air Lift at Mitchell Field. He was an Industrial Safety Compliance officer for OSHA in Appleton. Carl retired after working 27 years for the U.S. government in 1995. He then became a corporate Safety Manager for Wolf River Lumber, and later finished his career, owning his own consulting business.

The SPAM man was known by all as a fun-loving country music fanatic who loved SPAM! He is now with his favorite star: Johnny Cash. Carl loved his Lord and Savior with his whole heart and served Him as an usher for each congregation he attended since he was 16.

Carl was always there for anyone who needed a friend. Carl and Jackie sheltered many who needed a bed for the night or a home. He was an amazing father and grandfather and did his best to be at every concert, game or play that his children and grandchildren were in. He took much pride in each of them.

Carl will be greatly missed by his wife Jackie, children: Marlo (Marsh) Dempsey, Thomas (Jean) Scruggs, Franklin (special friend Jan) Scruggs, Jack (Connie) Scruggs and Denise Scruggs; along with 12 grandchildren: Cody, Blake and Caitlin Dempsey, Jennifer, Elaina and Tommy Scruggs, Matthew and Rebecca Scruggs, Sarah (Jacob) Snodgrass, Kristen (Josh) Parkhurst, Alicia DuRoy-Saunders and Christopher DuRoy; along with 11 great grandchildren. Carl will also be missed by his sisters: Janet (John) Gellerman and Alice Lecher, and brother: David (Nancy) Marsh along with family and friends too numerous to name.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2013, at Fox Valley Christian Fellowship, 1200 W. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, with Pastor Steven Nickel officating. Interment will take place at Wisconsin Veteran's Cemetery, King, WI. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Full military honors will be performed by members of the United States Navy and the William Verhagen Legion Post #60, Kimberly. A memorial has been established in Carl's name.

So many wonderful memories of the Marsh family, Evangel, Royal Rangers, and Fort Wilderness camping. We still have the yellow car window sign that Carl gave us. It said "If you think OSHA is a small town in Wisconsin, you're in trouble". What a great guy and wonderful sense of humor! Love and prayers to your entire family.

Carl is my brother and friend in Christ and will be greatly missed until our Father calls me home. He showed that he is God's disciple in this; the love he had for for everyone. I envy him, for he stands face to face with the One who holds the world in His hands. So cry for joy you Saints, Redeemed of the Lord, for this man is covered by the blood of Christ, and his pain, sorrow, and sin is no more, not even to be remembered. All praise to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Carl and Jackie, you all were the first people to greet us almost 3 years ago when we first walked into FVCF. The minute I saw your face Carl, I knew we found home! Carl, you have the most loving smile that was captivating. Then I looked at Jackie, she too was shining with happiness and joy. Carl, you were so loving to us and to Stephie and I will never forget that. You truly loved her and cared. I'm going to miss those big bear hugs and your big smile. I pray so much that you will once again greet me, but next time at those heavenly gates! Thank you so much for all your love and kindness. I will charish all the memories of you forever! I love Carl and Jackie and I'm praying for you and all your family.

To Jackie and the whole Marsh family any God be with you to support you through this tough time. Carl was one of the most wonderful men I ever got the privilege of knowing. He had a heart of gold and a smile that could truly light up this dark world. I know Carl is dancing in heaven with God right now, but I can't help feeling that this world will never be the same without Carl in it. I know when he met God, God took him is his arms and said well done Carl you made me proud.
God bless each in everyone of you.
