Charles R. Shutter, age 86, of Nekoosa, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa. Rev. Carl Kummer will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with military rites by Nekoosa VFW

Charles was born on April 20, 1927 in Tomah to Ray and Bessie (McKane) Shutter. He attended high school in Tomah and graduated in 1944. After graduation, he joined the US Army
from 1945-1947. Charles served in the Army infantry, 14 months of which he served in Italy.
His marriage to Shirley Reetz in 1945 ended in divorce. Together they had two daughters, Roberta Lee and Charlene Rae. He married Esther Schmidt on October 8, 1955 and together they had two children, Pamela Jean and Charles Ray, Jr. "Opie" Shutter
Charles was employed at Georgia Pacific (Domtar) for 34 years, retiring as a foreman in the shipping dept. at Nekoosa. He was a member of the VFW and participated in a recent "Honor Flight". He was also a member of the Nekoosa Lions where he received the "Melvin Jones Award" and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Charles was an avid Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packer fan. His interests including hunting and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Esther of Nekoosa; daughter, Charlene (Gary) Jones of Bangor, daughter, Pamela (Ron) Fait of Plover, and son, Charles Jr. "Opie" (Julie) Shutter of Nekoosa; 7 grandchildren, Jeff (LaRaine) Erickson, Leif Erickson, Trevor (Charlene) Jones, Eric (Jamie) Fait, Benjamin Fait, and Molly and Macey Shutter; 5 great grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Hubert of Oregon, WI; brother-in-law, John Lambaris of Sussex; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Roberta Erickson McConathy, one grandson, Dale Jones and four sisters, Helen Voss, Reba Fischer, Norma Zellmer and Eva Lambaris.
