Elwort, Fred G.
Fred G. Elwort, age 86, of Nekoosa, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Ministry St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield.
Fred requested there be no visitation or service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Fred was born April 17, 1927 in Adams to Anton and Sirena (Lord) Elwort. He married June Gildenzoph on Nov. 11, 1947 in Nekoosa. She died August 1, 1986. Fred served in the US Navy
from 1945-1946. He worked on the iron ore boats on the Great Lakes for Pittsburgh Steel. He was then employed by the City of Nekoosa for 32 years, retiring May 1, 1989.
Fred was hardworking, very generous and devoted to his family. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He enjoyed woodworking, baking (from scratch), watching the birds, fishing, camping, watching movies and burning them onto dvds.
He is survived by two children, Avis Elwort of Nekoosa and Fred Elwort of Tampa, FL and one sister, Frances Conley of Goodyear, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four sisters, Marie Hodge, Christina Raasch, Rose Pierce and Mary Elwort; three brothers, Tony, Joseph and Merle Elwort; and special friend, Carol Heckman.
The family would like to thank Dr. Douglas-Jones, Dr. Braxton, and the nurses and staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit for their care of Fred.
