Helen E. Emmes, age 88, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, now of the Marywood Center, Wausau, WI went to be with her heavenly Father on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau, WI.

Funeral Services are 6:00 PM Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Rev. Jonathan Jenks will officiate. Visitation will take place at Ritchay Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00-6:00 PM.

Helen was born July 23, 1924 in Marshfield, WI to Bruce and Emily (Miles) Erwin. She graduated from Marshfield High School and attended bible college in Minneapolis, MN. On July 8, 1944 Helen married Russell Emmes and they resided in Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Lake Wales, FL.

Helen proudly worked for the Wood County Courthouse serving for 27 years as an administrative assistant in the social service department. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Wisconsin Rapids, WI and her faith guided her throughout life's joy and strifes.

Helen enjoyed traveling, camping, and painting and numerous crafts. She always cherished time spent with family and friends. Helen was the center of the family and she enjoyed life whether it was going out for a meal or riding on the jet boat. Her grandchildren always loved going to her home to find double stuff Oreos or a 1/2 cup of M & M's. That was just an indicator of her youthful spirit. In her seventies, Helen attended Clown College in Florida to become a clown. She brought many smiles to and much happiness to others.

Helen is survived by son, Robert (Gayle) Emmes of Weston, WI and daughter, Patricia (special friend- David) Lauermann of Boulder Junction, WI; five grandchildren, Scott Trull of Lennox, SD, Pam Lepel of DePere, WI, Amy (Robert) Umland of Weston, WI, Kara (Kyle) Volz of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Josh Lauermann of Wausau, WI; eight great grandchildren, Dan (Krystal), Katie, Hailey, Jordan, Blake, Chase, Jayden, Lauren and one other on the way; and great great grandchildren, Lexie and Ryland; one sister, Darlene Beiler of Washington state. Helen is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, special friends and her special pets, Lady Violet and Gaby.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and family dog, Buttons.

Helen's family would like to express gratitude to the Marywood Center in Wausau, WI and Aspirus Palliative Care Unit.
