Steinke, Irene (Gross)

Irene Florence (Gross) Steinke, 93, Wisconsin Rapids, died early Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Our House Assisted Living Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

Services will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 22, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. Father John Steiner will officiate. Burial at Calvary Cemetery will take place at a later date. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of services at the church on Friday.

Irene was born in Wisconsin Rapids on August 5, 1919 to Chester and Sophia (Johnson) LeMay. She graduated from Lincoln High School. Irene married Fred Gross in 1939 and the couple welcomed two children, Barbara and Bruce, into God's creation. Fred died in 1979 after 40 wonderful years of marriage. Irene was blessed with love once more, marrying Marv Steinke in 1981. Marv died in 1995.

Irene was a strong woman who loved to crochet and travel. She cooked hot lunches at Saint's Peter and Paul Catholic Church for many years before working as a cook at the Tri-City Labor Temple for a number of years.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (Hamilton) and Richard Feldt of Mesa, AZ; daughter-in-law, Kathleen "Kitty" Gross of Wisconsin Rapids; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Marie (Theodore) LeMay, Kenneth (Carol) LeMay, Darlene (Norman) Sering and June (Dennis) Tomczyk; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; son, Bruce (d. 1983); granddaughter, Julie; son-in-law, Duane Hamilton; siblings, Dorothy Crotteau, Clarence LeMay, Agnes Knuth, James LeMay, Lillian Enerson and Chester LeMay.

Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Wisconsin Rapids, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
