John Frantz, 95, of Rome, Wisconsin passed away April 8, 2014 at home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 711 Prospect Avenue in Nekoosa with Father John Swing officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Branch Cemetery, County Road D, Rome. Visitation will be held at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home, 615 1st Street, in Nekoosa on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and Saturday at church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
John was born in Bellwood, Il to Carl and Anna Frantz on March 6, 1919. He married Shirley Kirby on September 2, 1939 in Forest Park, Illinois. She died June 7, 1993. John graduated Proviso High School 1938, went on to Oak Park Fire Department where he was then drafted by the US Navy
to serve his Country in World War II
. He then returned to OP FD and had a successful career, retiring as Deputy Chief in 1972 and moved to Wisconsin. Shortly thereafter he was asked to help develop what is now known as the Rome Fire Department. He was appointed Chief and remained in that position until 1989.
John is preceded in death by his wife Shirley (nee Kirby) and Grandson John L. Frantz, three brothers and three sisters.
John is survived by his daughter Sharon and son John H. (Joyce nee Wall), of Rome, 2 Grandchildren, 5 Great-Grandchildren and one brother Ronald (Elaine) Frantz of Romeoville, IL.
