Odin Almer Ulberg, age 96, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca.
Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, March 3rd at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Joyce Heintz will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be rendered by VFW
Post 2534. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
Odin was born in Ada, Minnesota on January 27, 1918 to Gilbert and Clara (Engum) Ulberg. He married Gertrude Baumback in Minnesota. She died in 1994.
Odin worked as a grinder operator for Consolidated Papers, Inc. in the Biron Division until his retirement in 1979.
He served his country in the United States Army in the infantry division during World War II
, from 1942 until 1945, including 18 months in Italy.
Odin's faith was very important to him. He was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Sigel. He enjoyed reading the Bible, and was able to accomplish reading it from front to back three times in his life time. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, and farming.
Survivors include one sister: Arlene Hill, Racine, WI; brother: Charles "Chuck" Ulberg, Kongsvinger, Norway; special nephew: Russell (Bonnie) Ulberg, Eau Claire, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, daughter, Joyce Ulberg, and brothers, Alvin R. Ulberg, Clayton Ulberg, Selmer Ulberg, and Gordon Ulberg, and many nieces and nephews.
