Robert C. Rickaby, age 93, of the Pine Ridge Assisted Living Center, formerly of Nekoosa died Monday September 2, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Christian Life Fellowship in Port Edwards. Rev. Dean Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held at church on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home of Nekoosa is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.ritchayfuneralhome.com.

Robert was born May 7, 1920 in New London to Albert and Leota (Buck) Rickaby. He served with honor in the US Army during World War II from 1941 - 1945 in the South Pacific Theatre. He was wounded in combat in the Philippines and received the Purple Heart, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service Medal.

Robert married Virginia Kniprath on October 19, 1946 in Waupaca. He was employed by Preway Corporation in Wisconsin Rapids for over 20 years, retiring in 1982. Robert enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia, three sons Gary (Cathy) Rickaby, Mitch (Karen) Rickaby and Terry (Jayne) Rickaby all of Nekoosa; 12 grandchildren Dawn (Joe) Weiers, Shannon (Kevin) Hill, Melissa Knutson, Chad Rickaby, Robert (Teri) Rickaby, Angela Wiedman, Brian Rickaby, Brenda (Joel) Karbowski, Brad (Nikki) Rickaby, Gerald (Nicki) Rickaby, Kyna (Brian) Schmidt and Christy (Eric) Mlodzik; and 30 great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Gerald John, brother Edward and sister Ethel Jones.
