Anton A. "Tony" Younger, 73, Wisconsin Rapids, died on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Renaissance Assisted Living, Wisconsin Rapids with his family by his side.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The family will receive relatives and friends at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church on Friday from 9:00 am until service time. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 422 of Wisconsin Rapids. His 6 grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Martens / Rembs Funeral Home, Junction City is assisting the family.
Anton was born on March 7, 1940 in Marshfield, the son of Adolph and Eleanor (Engman) Younger. He attended St. Kilian's parochial school, Blenker and was a 1958 graduate of Auburndale High School. He then entered the United States Marine Corps serving from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961. He married Virgean E. Schultz on October 7, 1958 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Auburndale.
In August of 1961 Tony became employed at Consoweld Corporation, Wisconsin Rapids for 27 years until its closing. He then became employed at Consolidated Papers, Wisconsin Rapids until his retirement in March of 1998.
He was a member of the Wood County Rifle and Pistol Club, the National Rifle Association and the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department Citizens Academy.
Tony was extremely proud of his Marine Corps heritage and kept in contact throughout the years with many of his military comrades from around the country. He truly loved his family and thought his great grandchildren were a real bonus. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and most recently shot his first bear accompanied by his sons.
He is survived by his wife Virgean and their children, Terry (Beverly) Younger of Ogema, Tom (Jenny) Younger and Tim (Brenda) Younger, all of Wisconsin Rapids. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike), Lindsay, Cole, Amy (Vaughan), Billy (Brittni) and Dylan, and 5 great grandchildren, Austin, Payton, Nattie, Eli and Cody. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Dale.
In lieu of flowers the family will designate a memorial in Tony's name.
