Thedens, Carl J.

Carl J. Thedens, 82, Middleton, died on Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Oakwood Meadows, Madison. Carl was born on December 26, 1929, in Pittsville, the son of John Carl and Louisa Selma (Dawes) Thedens. Carl Attended UW Madison and was a member of the Delta Theta Sigma Chapter. He taught Agriculture at Durand and Waterville High School. He especially enjoyed Industrial Arts Metal Works and taught many students over his 36 year career at Middleton High School. Building or creating new items or repairing older items were always an enjoyment for him. Carl built several pontoons and designed a pedal craft for riding on the water. Carl served in the US Army in the Korean War and received a Bronze Star Medal for his heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an armed enemy in Korea. The outdoors was another great enjoyment for Carl. He hiked, bird watched, camped, gardened, worked in the woods cutting trees and had a whole yard full of fruit trees that he cared for as well as doing the yearly canning of fruit. Carl volunteered at UW Hospital for 12 years. He volunteered for several years at the county parks where he planted seeds, cut trees and designed and built observation decks. One of Carl's greatest passions was music and his love for ballroom dancing.

Carl is survived by a sister-in-law, Carol Geisler; special friends, Linda Huffman and Roger Zemp; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louisa Thedens, two brothers, Robert and Donald Thedens, and a sister Evelyn Wilcox.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave, Middleton at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 22, 2012 . Visitation will be on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of theservice at the funeral home. A private burial will be at a later date in Pittsville, WI.

A special thank you to Agrace Hospice and Oakwood Village for the excellent care Carl received. Any monetary donations may be given to Agrace Hospice or to Oakwood Village.
