Carol Y. Grender, age 82, of 961 North Walden Way, Town of Rome, Adams County, WI died Thursday, September 19, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Monday, September 23, 2013 at Woodland Lutheran Church, Town of Rome, Adams County, WI. Rev. Stan Kwiecien will officiate. Visitation will be at Woodland Lutheran Church on Monday from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will take place 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Perry Lutheran Cemetery in Daleyville, WI which is south of Mount Horeb, WI.
Carol was born on May 10, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN, daughter of Joseph and Laura Handahl. She attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN and was a graduate of Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN.
On June 8, 1953, she married Albert Grender at Bethel Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN. Besides being a homemaker and mother, she served as Assistant Activity Director at Ja-Nor Nursing Home, West Allis, WI; a Personal Caregiver for Upjohn Health/Home Care, Ripon, WI; and Teachers' Aide in the Ripon and Markesan Public Schools. She was President of the Ripon Community Art Center; a member of the Western Shore Art Association in Fairhope, AL and Sons of Norway Elvedal Lodge in Wisconsin Rapids, WI and several Norwegian Lags. She has enjoyed all types of artwork and has done extensive family history research. A member of Woodland Lutheran Church, she served in the choir and the quilters' group.
Carol and Albert resided in West Allis, WI for 14 years and Fairwater, WI near Ripon for 16 years where he served as a Pastor in both locations.
Carol is survived by her husband Albert; five children, Ruth (Mark) Senn of Pueblo West, CO, Jane Grender of Eagan, MN, Anne Grender of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, David (Tammy) Grender of West Salem, WI and Gary (Colleen) Grender of Wausau, WI; one sister, Darlene (Merle) Lenz of Weslaco, TX; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John Reeves and two sisters, Violet Green and Lois Jewell
Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI is handling all arrangements.
